Sarah Tolan-Mee

Sarah has a BA from Brown University in Literary Arts, and an MFA from The Juilliard School in Drama. She was honored with The Weston Award at Brown, and received a Schubert Scholarship to study at Juilliard. She worked in the Writing Centers of both schools, assisting undergraduate students with their academic writing. Since then, she has worked with middle, high school, and college students as an academic tutor, college counselor, and executive functioning coach.

When she’s not tutoring, Sarah works as an educational outreach teacher and coordinator with various arts organizations in NY. She has performed new work with artists from more than 30 countries, and has overseen the educational components of these multi-national creative workshops. She has developed and taught arts and literacy curricula for juvenile detention centers in Chicago. She currently works with teenage refugees seeking asylum, providing educational support in their transition to the US.

Sarah especially loves working with pre-teens and teenagers because of their dynamic journeys establishing a sense of self and sense of world. In addition to content-specific scaffolding, she works with students to develop their own best study habits that they can apply across disciplines. She believes it is more important than ever to provide her students with structured spaces of inquiry, creativity, mindful rigor, and reflection for holistic growth.
