Rob Grant
Rob (he/him/his) graduated from Princeton University with an AB in English and a certificate in Theater and Dance, receiving the Francis LeMoyne Page Theater Award for his independent thesis. He went on to receive his MFA in Acting from the Yale School of Drama, receiving the Herbert H. and Patricia M. Brodkin Scholarship. During his MFA Rob was part of the Dwight/Edgewood Program, serving as a mentor to New Haven area youth. In addition to acting and teaching, he has worked as a carpenter, personal chef, nutrition coach, camp counselor and lacrosse coach, and is the board treasurer of The Children’s Initiative, an NGO with on-the-ground programs dedicated to improving the lives of children in Honduras and Haiti.
Rob’s love of teaching began when he was asked to do a workshop on Macbeth at Dartmouth while playing the role at a nearby theater. Since then he has led groups ages 8 to 80 to engage with Shakespeare’s writing with a sense of play and wonder; even since branching out and beginning to tutor all subjects, Rob’s favorite is still turning Shakespeare haters into fans.
Rob brings to his tutoring a particular talent for identifying unhelpful habits and offering alternatives that cater to the students’ strengths, enabling them to meet their next challenge with confidence and enthusiasm. His passion for teaching is driven by his belief that every individual brings their own unique perspective and skill set to their studies, and a tutor’s job is to facilitate connections - between student and subject, between familiar knowledge and new ideas, between interest and the unknown.
