What We Do

Connect To Learn is a tutoring company providing both executive function/organizational coaching and academic subject tutoring. We are organized around the principle that the best learning takes place in the context of a strong, attuned, and supportive tutor-student relationship.

Tony Charuvastra, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, founded Connect to Learn after noticing that many students were both demoralized and disorganized when it came to learning. He noticed that his patients started to thrive when they began to feel hopeful and then competent as learners. Because so much tutoring seemed organized around outcome (e.g. improving an SAT score or a math grade) rather than process (e.g. learning how to learn, regaining a sense of hope and competence as a learner), he wanted to create a program that could train tutors to connect better with students and nurture these capacities within them.

Connect to Learn works primarily with students from grades 6-12, and with young adults in college and post-college. We offer training to our tutors in executive function coaching, and we think that subject tutoring is also better when it is done with an EF lens.
